Every home in England and Wales requires a Home Information Pack to be initiated before it is legally allowed to be sold. This also includes those wishing to undertake a private sale.
Part of the HIP is the mandatory Energy Performance Certificate, this requires a Domestic Energy Assessor to assess your home and provide a energy performance rating to be added to your HIP.

Once this is completed on a property you have the choice of any HIP provider who will then compile the full pack on your behalf that you can take to a Estate agent or direct to a potential buyer of your home, allowing a legal, potentially more profitable property.

The Energy Peformance Certificate rates a homes energy efficiency from A-G (with A being the most efficient rating). The certificate also offers advice on how to save energy around the home. If advice is followed the householders can often cut their energy costs by up to £300 per year.
